The importance of learning English in early childhood
English has become one of the main tools for communication in all kinds of activities worldwide
Learning a second language in early childhood, not only gives them the opportunity for children to start learning the language and familiarizing very young, but also generates benefits in the child that will impact very positively, among which can be include the following:
- Greater cognitive development
- Better communication skills.
- The mind becomes more flexible and creative.
- Improve problem-solving skills.
- Mental agility.
- Better concentration and selective attention.
There are several theories and studies that confirm the importance of learning English in early childhood, for example the thesis postulated by Wilder Penfield called "Mother Method" which refers to the teaching and learning of second languages in children. He argues that by stimulating listening and using words in a new language, changes occur at the level of cerebral cortex that facilitate the subsequent acquisition of this and, more importantly, it uses naturally, like the mother tongue.
A child under five can learn a second language and speak like a native. Even if that child, then do not practice the second language for a while and resumed in adulthood, you can more easily and almost without accent learn a second language, as their brain has stored the knowledge acquired at an early age and age recovers adult.
The reason for this is that children have more flexible and open minds, so when exposed to a new language developed more than linguistic agility, besides taking it without anxiety, since they do not feel pressure to speak if not necessary, but first understand and then use this new learning in their daily communication.
